Savannah Workers Comp Temporary Total Benefits

The purpose of workers’ compensation benefits is to provide financial assistance to those who were injured on the job. If you were hurt or contracted an illness at work, workers’ compensation benefits can cover your medical expenses as well as any lost wages.

Understanding Temporary Total Disability Benefits

There are several types of workers’ compensation benefits, including temporary total disability benefits (TTD), which are extended to those who are completely sidelined after sustaining a workplace injury or illness. Temporary total disability benefits are paid on a weekly basis, and should be equal to two-thirds of your average weekly wage, with a maximum of $525.00.

For instance, if your average weekly wage was $650 prior to your work injury, your TTD rate is $433.33 (650 x 2/3), and your weekly check should be in the amount of $433.33. Similarly, if your average weekly wage was $1000 prior to your injury, your TTD rate is $666.66 (1000 x 2/3), but you are only eligible to receive the maximum amount of $525 per week.

Please note that due to recent legislative changes, accidents occurring after July 1, 2015 are subject to a maximum TTD rate of $550.00.

Who Can Qualify?

In order to be eligible for TTD benefits, you must be unable to work in any capacity as a result of your work-related injury, or be on “light-duty” restriction that your employer cannot accommodate. Your authorized treating physician is responsible for documenting your medical condition and progress, and whether or not you are able to work.

When Do Temporary Total Benefits End?

TTD benefits are only intended to last as long as they are absolutely necessary; that is, as long as you are unable to work. Your benefits will end if you return to work and/or when your doctor determines that you can work again.
